GRUB IN THE ISLAND
February 25, 2018
Bantayan Island is one of my favorite pieces of paradise...and that's saying something because I've seen quite a few postcard pretty places.
The nature in Bantayan Island is jaw-dropping, and the vibe is so chill and laid-back. And, most importantly, the island is home to some of the best food I've ever had in such a long time. Let's put it this way: I've been ditching rice since January. Sadly, Bantayan Island blew that diet into bits.
I absolutely have no regrets.
Okay, let this be a warning. You'll be in the direct path of food photos. I am not responsible for any destroyed diet plans.
Here are some of the food we tried whilst in Bantayan:

Newsflash: Island girl finally goes to Cafe Racer after a jillion years of passing it by to and from work every single day.
Yeah boy. *pats back*
This latest offering from the Pages Group (the geniuses who've brought us well-loved restos like Mooon Cafe and Lantaw) reminds me of late, late nights driving across North Reclamation and seeing droves of motorcycles getting ready for a drag race.
Exciting, gritty, slightly illegal.
The place itself is so thought-out, it's impressive. It's like one of the owners passed by this former gas station after watching Grease or Back to the Future and thought heyyyy million dollar idea! Why don't we turn this run down place to something awesome?
The racing-diner concept was, of course, loved by Cebuanos. It just opened early this year and it now has a decent following.

Let's take a #tb and thank God for the wonder that is Joed's Lutong Hapon.
If you're a Queen City native, you've probably heard of these guys. Heck, you might even have them on your Favorite Places to Eat Where I Don't Have to Dress Up list already. Joed's gained lots of attention a couple of years back from being the only "Japanese Eatery" around town.

We discovered another nice cozy place to chill and eat somewhere in Mactan. Say hi to Cafe Gracias.
Nothing big or too fancy, Cafe Gracias is a simple refuge from the killing heat and noise this side of Mactan.
They have lots of food choices is the best part. There's this little side door that connects the cafe to the eatery next door, so you can have your choice of ordering homegrown meals like this from the eatery:

Hey, did you get your Maria Clara outfit ready? Word on the street is there's a grand ancestral house hidden at the very heart of Cebu City to cater to all your turn-of-the-century cravings. Welcome to Circa 1900. :)
Take a hint from the name: Circa 1900 is a centuries old ancestral house now converted into a restaurant. Just the sight of the sprawling white house takes you back in the time of colonial Philippines. You can just imagine Jose Rizal to come out the door and greet you with a "What's up home dawg". Or something along that line. The place is a testament to the country's rich culture and heritage.
Also if the place looks familiar, this is where we shot my friend Magi's postnup session. Their servers are friendly and would gladly give you a tour of the place whilst waiting for the food.

Valentine's Day is already underway, and everyone--- from romance-crazed boy/girlfriends to gigantic malls--- is stocking up on the love ammo for the 14th of February. But here's one place who doesn't even have to try being romantic: 10 Dove Street.
Cebuanos have this knack of turning nice houses into even nicer restaurants and 10 Dove Street sits at the top of that list. Imagine a nice cozy house way out in a village, serving you warm, literally home-made four-course meals. Fancy and comfy at the same time! One problem though: Sto. Nino Village=very far from my island. Meh. So now that they've conveniently relocated at the Oakridge Business Park in Banilad, my heart sings a fervent booyah. Thank heavens for their concern to customers who live far and away!
Interestingly enough, the place still sticks to its warm, homey feel.
I have contracted two of my pretty friends to come along for a lovely dinner date. :)

Mum and I discovered a nice place while grocery shopping: a quiet nook called Bella's Bites. :)
Mum and I had a Banana Strawberry Smoothie and Cheese Chicken Pasta and Broccoli Bake.

The smoothie---too fruity for me but if you like it like that then you are in for a treat. The pasta was divine. Broccoli was fresh and crunchy and the cheese was great. The owner was quick to note that they use only the freshest ingredients. My mum, who loves all that is healthy, absolutely loved it.
The staff's really friendly too. The owners, Steven (who's Australian I think) and Cathy personally takes care of your order and describes the dishes. Cathy even apologized because the WiFi was down when we went there. So nice and accommodating. And to think this place is located at a shy little corner in Marina Mall, surrounded by pirated DVD shops and RTW stores. Where'd you have to go for service like that?
Bella's Bites is a perfect place to hang out and catch up with friends, or in my case, mothers. Come over and treat your mama, too. They have a huge menu that goes from hearty soups to coffee so I think your tummy would love to come over and try what they have to offer. And le wallet? Don't worry, everything is actually affordable. :)
Bella's Bites is located at the Ground Floor, Marina Mall, Pusok Lapu-Lapu City. It's way out back (past Save More), towards the parking lot at the back. Don't miss it! :)
See you around. :)
Tell me what you think! Leave a comment and be my friend. :)

But now I'm OK so let's celebrate my recovery by pigging out! Yeaaah boy!
People keep saying that now is a good time to be a foodie in Cebu. The city is crawling with new places that simply must be tried. Truthfully, I'm not at all good at food blogging, or eating in general (Can't walk two feet without Kremil S. I'm trying ok!) but I finally found a place that was worth the post. Lo and behold, the quaint little Brussels Cafe and Bistro.
Located at the heart of Banilad, you can't miss Brussels. It's right next to Gaisano Country Mall. The outside is very easy on the eyes and should give you a hint about the ingredients that they use for their yummy meals (clue: they're all organic!). The friends and I opted to walk from IT Park. It was a long hot walk but when we finally arrived, we were relieved.

| Noel The Snowman (rumoured to be Olaf's cousin but I can't be too sure) greets you on the way in. :) |

| The space is small and cozy. Check out the photos of Europe on the tables. |
I think the best thing about the place is that even if its really tiny, the menu is anything but. They have everything from breakfast sets to cold cut orders to desserts to smoothies and frappes. And all prices are affordable! Brussels is definitely the little cafe that could.
