WHERE DO DATELESS HEARTS GO

Singles' Awareness Day looms over the island like the Deathstar. Don't worry, I got you covered, because I don't believe in Valentines Day either. Or maybe you do believe in Valentines Day, wa lang kay date. Ha!

Either way, I stand by you in solidarity, dear dateless friends. Here are places and events that you can go to whether on a solo flight or with other friends for Singles Awareness Day 2016. :)

1. Get wasted at Wasted Chef

(c) Enzo Mendoza
Who needs unlimited gugma when you can have unlimited pizza, shawarma, burgers and pasta instead? Guys, unlimited food trumps ALL. Why get wasted on love when you can go to The Wasted Chef this Valentines Day? This newest venture (just opened last December) from our favorite Powerspoonz boy Ian Sekong and friends will surely make your tummy full with their to-die for food. Best part? It's only Php250, from 6-10pm. Bring two other friends with you and you get bottomless iced tea. Sometimes love doesn't make the world go round; free-flowing food does. Wasted Chef is at Gorordo Ave, Cebu City.

2. Sing Your Heart Out at Gugmang Giatay

(c) Bambi Abetria
Finally, a legit Cebuano jukebox musical about unrequited love, expletives and homegrown music. Gugmang Giatay's second run at Centerstage in SM Seaside City is sure to hit you right in the kasing-kasing, with lots of laughter, music and surefire fun. I'm very excited for this one. The title itself reminds me of good old highschool days spent learning all the songs of The Ambassadors and Urbandub and Faspitch and Missing Filemon. And yes, I know still know all the words to Gugmang Gi*tay, (we said "gugma ni tatay" when mom was in the same room). My friends and I grew up loving local music, and I'm so glad that Vispop has a much wider audience now than ever. And now, this! It's something all Bisaya kids should see.

Regular tickets are priced at 350php and 600php; VIP Php1500 for 2. You can catch it on the following dates: February 12, 8pm or February 13 2pm and 8pm. Hurry, tickets are running out!

3. Make a cake sweeter than your Ex at Caro and Marie's Baking Workshops

You can have your cake AND eat it too! I mean what's the point of even baking right? Instead of sulking in your room, take advantage of Caro and Marie's Baking Workshops. Oh look, they even have a Valentine's Day Dessert Buffet class for only Php 1500. Brownies and chocolate cakes and tequila rose frosting. Yummy or not? Perfect way to vent out all of your frustrations and make some money off it, too. You may absolutely dislike those kids wearing the awwwwful couple shirts but if they'd pay good money for your sweet creations, then why not? Who knows you may end up having a booming business like our friends at The Purple Box Pastries?

4. Adopt A Pet

Sometimes pets can give more love than any other human being. Lately I've been surprised at how many Facebook pages there are dedicated to pet adoptions in Cebu. Check out Cebu's Pet Adoption Center page for pet adoptions. You're true love may not be that good looking guy at the bookstore but a very cute loving pup or kitten. And everyone knows pets can love you forevs.

5. Go on a roadtrip!

Broken heart? Psh. I've learned that there is nothing more beautiful than a roadtrip to the South to get you in your right mind again. There are so many things to do like the unexpectedly good Bojo River Cruise in Aloguinsan, or just laying down that endless stretch of sand in Moalboal. The best part? There's no party crowd this time of the year so, yes, you can enjoy yourself and the unspoiled view.

So, going to any of these gigs this weekend?

Tell us what you think!

Have a great Valentines Day! Even if it's just a made-up holiday. :)
